RANAU: Residents here are advised not to engage in open burning in view of the dry weather currently occurring in the district.Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said it is vital for the public to refrain from practising open burning because even a spark could result in wildfires.ADVERTISEMENT
“The public need to prioritise on safety first because fire in the open area could easily become uncontrolable and could turn disastrous with the risk of losing valuable assets, homes and even lives,” he said.
Ridwan said his department is constantly patrolling the areas daily and be on standby and ready to act upon any fire incident in the district considering the high risk condition taking place right now.
Concerning the same issue, he also told the public, especially parents to monitor their children and prevent them from playing with fire, so as not to cause any unwanted incidents.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Towards that end, he urged the public to call the district’s Fire Station at 088-878779 for any fire incident, but he also warned the public not to make false report or prank calls through the 999 emergency line, because this could result in more serious circumstances for all.ADVERTISEMENT
Meanwhile, media observation on the main river in the district shows the Liwagu river volume has decreased tremendously due to the low rainfall since about two weeks ago, indicating a dry season to ensue.
