Man ‘accidentally shoots himself dead’ in Ranau

RANAU: A local is believed to have accidentally shot himself dead in a field near Kampung Togis, here, Sunday night.The victim, in his 40s, was found by his son around their farm and rushed to Ranau Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Ranau Police Chief DSP Sammy Newton said they received a report from the victim’s son who showed up the Ranau Police Headquarters about 2.09pm on Monday regarding the incident.
“According to the son, his father died from a serious injury to the back of his hip when a gun went off when he slipped while walking.
“Initial investigation revealed that the victim went to his farm in Kg Kopis, believed for hunting purposes, at 3pm.
“About 8.50pm, the victim contacted one of his sons and informed that he had accidentally shot himself.

“The victim’s son rushed to the scene and found the victim in serious condition,” he said.
According to Sammy, police seized a bakakuk, a bullet shell, three live bullets and several items belonging to the victim at the scene.

He said investigations are still ongoing and the case is being investigated as sudden death.
