Kuala Lumpur: A total of 828 individuals were arrested during police patrols and at roadblocks across the country for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO) on Sunday, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said this showed police were taking sterner action in light of people still disregarding the MCO.

Speaking at his daily press conference on the MCO, Ismail Sabri said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have so far mounted 1,520 roadblocks and checked 257,287 vehicles. He said overall, 67,774 personnel were on duty to enforce the MCO and that more would be mobilised if needed.

“Our aim is not to increase but reduce arrests.  More arrests mean there are still many not heeding the MCO. We have more reserve personnel and if needed, more personnel can be deployed from time to time,” he said.

He also announced that the number of roadblocks at toll plazas throughout the country has been increased from 23 to 65, and would be further expanded to 114 toll plazas.
