SABAH Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is still waiting for the Penampang District Council to submit its application to take over the ownership of the account for the streetlights in front of Surian Residences at Jalan Kobusak, in Nosoob. It is learnt that several of the facilities in front of the condo units have not been functioning for more than a month. The Council had initially claimed that it has submitted a request to SESB to take over the account from the developer firm. However, a SESB spokeswoman told Hotline on March 17 that it has not received such an application from the Council. “Electricity supply to the streetlights concerned was cut in June last year due to non-payment of the electricity bill,” she added. She said it would need an official application from the Council on the matter before it could restore electricity supply to the streetlights. “It is pitch dark outside our condos because four of the streetlights along the main road are not functioning for many nights already,” said a representative from the condo management firm. He said the road must be well lit at night without fail given the high volume of traffic along the stretch even in late hours. “This will not only benefit our condo dwellers but also all road users, including residents staying in nearby residential areas,” he added. He pointed out that having sufficient lighting outside the main entrance to the condos is necessary for safety reason. “I agree with the excuses given to us by our condo dwellers that the darkness will only invite trouble to them.

“Some of them complained of poor visibility on the road which can lead to accidents if the facilities are not functioning,” he said.  (OV)
