Brothers jailed for opening hardware shop during MCO

LAHAD DATU: Two local men were jailed two months and fined RM1,000 or one-month jail for failing to comply with the Movement Control Order (MCO).Magistrate Ryan Sagiran Rayner Jr meted out the sentence to Ng Khim Weng, 51, and his brother, Ng Kim Chuah, 48, who pleaded guilty to the charges against them on Tuesday.

The brothers were found breaching the order by operating their hardware workshop.
The business was not included in the essential services as stated in the Rule Table 2 Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 in an infected area without document (letter) from the Head of Director.
The brothers were detained on March 28 following the inspection conducted by police on the premises located at the Dam Industrial Centre, Jalan Dam, here.
The offence, under the Regulation 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease (Measures within the Infected local areas), was read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Awang Mohd Nor Hafiz admitted to breaching the MCO by being at Jalan Pantai, which was an infected area, without reasonable excuse at 11.30pm on March 28.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Risal Abd Fikkah appeared for the prosecution.
