Going to another’s house: Man jailed, fined
Kota Kinabalu: A 49-year-old man was jailed five days and ordered to pay a fine of RM500 or spend another three days in prison for disobeying the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Sessions Court Judge Ummu Khaltom Abdul Samad meted out the sentence to Ambrose Laiwat who admitted to the charge against him on Thursday.

Ambrose violated the MCO by moving from his residence to another’s house in Kg Madang Pimping, Membakut.

He was detained at 11.30pm on March 30 at the Taman Firdaus cemetery area, Membakut.

Ambrose had moved to the affected area without intention of doing any of the things provided for under Regulation 3 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Steps in the Infected Areas) 2020.

The offence, under the Regulation 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Steps in the Infected Areas) 2020, provides for a jail term of up to six months or fine, or both, on conviction.

The court heard that Ambrose was detained during the Ops Covid-19 conducted in the area.

Ambrose failed to give a reasonable excuse to the police.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Faezah Jafry appeared for the prosecution.
