Driver’s leg cramp results in death of couple

PENAMPANG: A husband and wife were killed when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a vehicle whose driver suffered a leg cramp just before it happened.The couple was dragged into a drain along with the vehicle that hit them on Jalan Noosob-Hungab, here, Friday.

The 35-year-old motorcyclist and his 38-year-old wife died at the scene in the 2.50pm tragedy.
The Toyota Avanza driven by a 33-year-old man with a passenger aged 15 was their way from shopping. He suffered a leg cramp, resulting in him losing control of his vehicle.
Penampang Police Chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident, said initial investigations revealed that the Avanza, after losing control, crashed a road corner and went onto the opposite lane before colliding with the oncoming motorcycle.
“The impact caused the motorcycle to be dragged into a drain together with the vehicle,” he said.

The driver suffered minor injuries while the passenger escaped unscathed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and the bodies have been sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post-mortem.

According to witnesses, the woman was flown about 50 feet upon impact while the man was dragged along with the motorcycle into the drain.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
