Kota Kinabalu: Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose (pic) confirmed that 55 Filipinos have been reported infected with coronavirus (Covid-19) in Peninsular Malaysia.

He made the revelation during a live radio/TV telecast aired over PTV4, a public service programme. “We are now monitoring the conditions of the 55 Filipinos who were tested positive with the virus ,” the Ambassador said.

Except for one, Jose said the patients came from Philippines to attend the tabligh religious gathering held in Seri Petaling Mosque last February 27-March 1.

Of the total cases, he said 46 are now undergoing medical treatments in government hospitals while the remaining nine patients were officially discharged.

According to Jose the embassy is closely monitoring the conditions of the patients and will extend the all necessary assistance to facilitate their eventual return to the Philippines once cleared by the health authorities.

Replying to another question by Secretary Andanar on the news that Malaysia is sending an aircraft to pick-up stranded Malaysians to Manila this week, Jose confirmed that a Malaysian aircraft is scheduled to depart from Kuala Lumpur to Manila on Sunday (April 5) for the said very reason.

He said the embassy is also coordinating with Malaysia airline to help facilitate stranded Filipinos in Malaysia to return home on Sunday.

“So far, there are already 24 Filipinos who signed up to participate in this scheduled MAS special flight on Sunday,” he added.

Contrary to the claimed made by an OFW when interviews recently in Kuala Lumpur, Jose categorically denied any reported case of indiscrimination incidents in groceries and supermarkets.

In totality , he said Filipinos do not face much problems in Malaysia despite the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

Finally, the Ambassador reminds all Filipinos in Malaysia to monitor closely the announcements posted in the embassy’s website and Facebook

He assured the embassy will entertain all inquiries and problems of Filipinos .

“We have posted our contacted numbers and have assigned 24/7 staff to attend to the needs of the Filipinos,” he added.
