Kota Kinabalu: The State Government has decided to stop the sale of fish and other marine products at the Safma Fishery Complex immediately throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

State Secretary Datuk Safar Untong said this is due to the crowds at the Complex every day.  It was decided at the meeting of Sabah Covid-19 Command Centre, Tuesday, that Safma Complex be used for fish loading and wholesale only.

“We also noted there have been crowd congestion in the city and townships across the state since Monday, especially at bank branches.

“Therefore, we urge the people to always practise social distancing when dealing with banks, whether they are queuing before entering the bank or when they are inside the bank. “People are also advised not to rush going to the bank branches and at the same time, the banks are advised to limit the number of customers at a time,” he added.

Safar who is also Sabah Covid-19 Command Centre Chairman said the banks should also implement systematic and orderly procedures during this MCO period for customers who wish to engage their services.

He said the local authorities (PBT), police and authorised agencies are directed to monitor and enforce social distancing when the people are queuing outside the bank premises. In addition, he said the banks’ customers and staff must wear face masks and use hand sanitizers.

In a related announcement, City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said individual fish buyers and small-scale sellers can get their supplies from the six wet markets.

“We received a lot of complaints where there are many who deal with the distribution of fish in Safma. “Safma will operate from 6am to 6pm which will only involve trawlers and wholesalers. The wholesaler will get their supplies from Safma to be distributed to the six designated markets around KK.

“Individual and small-scale sellers are to get their supplies from the six gazetted markets namely in Kota Kinabalu, Tg Aru, Sembulan, Inanam, Manggatal and Telipok,” he said.
