UMS opens three throat swab centres

Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) opened three throat swab centres here to enable students to fulfil the health screening procedure before they are allowed to return to their respective hometowns.Its Residential College Principal Wijaya Kamal Ramlan said in a statement the centres are located at 1Borneo Residential College, Angkasa Apartment and UMS Polyclinic in Kingfisher.

He said the screening involved 1,042 UMS students who live off-campus at Ecopark Residential, 1Borneo Residential College and Kingfisher International College and non-residents.
“Students who have registered to return home have given good cooperation during the screening in complying with the directive issued by the State Health Department.
“Off-campus residential college personnel have been working hard to ensure that UMS students received the best treatment.
“During the Movement Control Order (MCO), the management of the Residential College also received excellent cooperation from Non-Resident Student Welfare Committee (Jakmas) chaired by its President, Syed Muhammad Syafwan Said Anorl and Al-Hidayah Awang.

Meanwhile, Syed Muhammad said the association faced many challenges, including managing the distribution of dry food aid to students living off-campus.
“It was heart warming to see the commitment of UMS staff working hard to ensure the well-being of students so that students can return home,” he said.

On another development, UMS Health Centre Chief, Dr Muhammad Syafiq Abdullah said the students would go through six processes during the screening procedure.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

“The process involved residential college registration process, body temperature check, student classification process using UMS Shield Apps, kit preparation process for filter use, screening procedure description and sample collection.
“The throat swab process works well as a result of the dedication and cooperation of the experienced frontline personnel with the tasks they need to do,” he added.
