Kota Kinabalu: A liquor agent was found dead in a hotel room in the city centre on Friday morning after a drinking session with some friends.

It is understood that the 35-year-old man and five friends checked into the hotel on Wednesday night for business discussions and a drinking session.

City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the victim left for work on Thursday morning and returned to the hotel room to be with his friends.

“According to one of the victim’s friends, they started drinking around 6pm until 3am on Friday.

“His friends who were supposed to be sent home by the victim had to ask other friends to do so because the victim had fallen asleep,” he said, when contacted, Saturday.

According to Habibi, a hotel worker who was asked to wake up the victim found him unconscious at 5am.

He said the hotel management then contacted the police and health officials who arrived later pronounced the man dead.

“Investigations at the scene did not reveal any criminal element.

“The body has been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for an autopsy to find out the actual cause of death,” he said.
