Man jailed for disposing of stolen computer

Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old man was jailed 12 months, Friday, for disposing of a stolen notebook computer.

Isyak Adna @ Abdullah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 10pm at the end of April at Kg Petagas in Putatan.

The court heard that the notebook was reported  among properties stolen from a unit at Grace Ville in Sembulan on May 5.

Isyak was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, upon conviction.

Duty counsel Julhamri Jumhani applied for leniency saying that his client was remorseful and unemployed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

In another similar case, a 28-year-old man was jailed two months for disposing of a pair of stolen earrings.

Mohd Rino Ahmad admitted to committing the offence at the security kiosk of the Grace Ville in Sembulan on April 22.

The said earrings was also reported stolen from a unit at the same housing area, the court heard.

Julhamri, representing Rino, in applying for a lenient sentence, said Rino was remorseful and  previously worked as a security guard.

In another case, a 31-year-old woman was fined RM1,000 or two weeks jail for engaging in online gambling known as Kiss918.

Juhra Cicu admitted to committing the offence at 1.10am on May 20 at a premises in Asia City complex.

The court heard that Juhra was arrested by a police team, who found her engaging in the game using her handphone.

Juhra confessed that she involved in the activity to earn more money and applied for a lenient sentence.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting, told the court that about RM142 cash was seized for Juhra.

The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited by the government.

The charge under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both on conviction.
