Tuaran: A Tuaran resident has voiced concern about the safety hazard posed by a tilting pole on the road divider at Jalan Datuk Dahlan in town area.He noticed the pole which is no longer supporting any utility cables is slanting towards the roadway.

“I fear the pole will cause serious injury or even death to unsuspecting pedestrian should it collapses one of these days,” lamented DARIUS, a fishmonger who frequents the stretch daily to the nearby wet market.

He was under the impression that a motorist had accidentally hit the pole while reversing his or her car from a parking lot there.

“I think the driver or a member of public had tried to set it to upright position but the attempt was failed.

“It is now dangerously tilting towards the road where many cars are passing by including pedestrians and motorcyclists,” he added.

He said the pole should be removed from the spot if its purpose there is no longer required by its caretaker.

“Why have it there if it serves no purpose?,” he asked.

Meanwhile, another complainant who highlighted to Hotline about the danger of several hex bolts protruding on the public walkway at Jalan Hone in town not too long ago, had been attended to by the District Council recently.

All four bolts which can cause severe injuries to those who accidentally stepped on them while walking in that area had been removed during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

A Council spokeswoman assured that its staff at the relevant section would be asked to verify the complaint promptly.

“We need to find out who is the owner of the pole so that it is easier for us to refer the matter to them,” she added.

Hotline would follow up on the issue again later.
