Kota Kinabalu: The Bajau Sama Sabah Association (PBSS) denied that the construction of its cultural centre is a “white elephant” project.PBSS Secretary-General Mohd Kassim Razali said the project consultants had reported that work on the project was 93 per cent completed but could not be finished due to some technical problems.

“We hope the relevant authorities, project consultants and contractors can overcome the technical problems so that the centre could be built soonest possible as the association is really hoping to use the building.
“On claims that the project is just a ‘white elephant’, we think it’s baseless because the project is still not fully completed and not officially handed over by the Government to the association. Thus, what is the individual’s real motive in highlighting the issue?” he said in a statement, Wednesday.
He said this when commenting on a front-page article in Wednesday’s Daily Express, which labelled the project a “white elephant”.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

According to Kassim, the association had many plans for the centre, including building traditional Bajau Sama Fishermen and Farmers houses to highlight their lifestyle, handicraft, tradition and cultural heritage.
