TAWAU: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) here has inspected 2,319 premises in special checks during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Its Chief Enforcement Officer Aslani Dabi said the checks were conducted on all premises including the general market and supermarkets to ensure the traders conducted their businesses ethically and not raise the price to gain more profit.

He said the inspections were also to ensure the supply of essential goods were always sufficient and selling at reasonable prices.

According to Aslani, the items for the district during the Hari Raya celebration as well as Kaamatan festival were sufficient.

In the meantime, he urged the consumers to not be swayed by the fake news spreading through social media, causing consumers to do panic buying and store a lot of stock.

“Consumers need not panic as supply of essential goods is guaranteed adequate for the MCO period. KPDNHEP will ensure that the supply of these essential goods are enough during this period,” he said.

At the same time, Aslani wants traders to behave ethically and to adhere to rules and laws as well to avoid acts of trespass because consumers today know their rights and where to file a complaint.

He also announced the implementation of the Festival of Maximum Price Control Scheme (SKHMMP) in conjunction with Hari Raya and Kaamatan Festival 2020, effective from May 20 to June 3 for Hari Raya and May 28 to June 3 for Kaamatan Festival.

He said he had issued the notice to all traders around the area on their obligation to comply with the maximum price and set a pink price tag on all regulated goods during the festive season.

So far during the SKHMMP, KPDHEP has inspected 123 retailers and 13 wholesalers including in rural areas and found all traders had complied with the scheme.

He advised consumers to lodge complaint with KPDNHEP Tawau at 089-776690 or e-complaint @ kpdnhep.gov.my or 019-2794317.
