Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court Thursday with cheating a woman of RM2,400 over a car sale.

Mohd Najib Ahmad pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to cheating one Ermah Jamirin by making her to believe that he sold a Perodua MyVi car to her, of which the vehicle was rented by him from another person, without the knowledge of the car’s owner.

The charge stated that Najib’s alleged trick caused Ermah to give him RM2,400 cash and a handphone between early March and end of April this year.

Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit in applying for a mention date proposed bail at RM5,000.

The court set July 6 for pre-trial case management and released Najib on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.

Najib was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one year and ten years, with whipping and liability of a fine on conviction.

In another case, a 44-year-old man was fined RM25 or one day jail for uttering threating words to his older brother.
