Foreigner given four years for syabu
Kota Kinabalu: A foreigner was jailed  four years and ordered caned three times by the Sessions Court here for having 13.65gm of syabu.

Basil Andil pleaded guilty before Judge Elsie Primus to having the drugs at 12pm at Kg Lokub in Manggatal on Sept 26, 2019.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Mas Izzaty Lokman informed the court that Basil was arrested by police for having two packets plastic containing drugs, which later confirmed to be syabu weighing 12.65gm.

Basil requested for a lenient sentence.

DPP Mas Izzaty applied for a deterrent sentence.

The court ordered Basil to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

Basil had committed an offence under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act read with Section 39A (1) of the same Act.

He was ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.

Meanwhile, another man claimed trial to taking drugs.

Mashfirul Suhaili pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at 2.15pm on May 21 at Papar police station.

The court heard that Mashfirul had one conviction record under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Elsie set June 23 for mention and ordered Mashfirul be remanded further pending the date.

Mashfirul was charged under Section 39C (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a jail term of between seven and 13 years and whipping between three and six times and to be placed under police supervision for not more than three years, on conviction.
