Deport illegals for sake of Covid: Senator
PENAMPANG: Senator Datuk John Ambrose  (pic) said the proposal by Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (Star) to deport all illegal immigrants in Sabah should be supported to prevent an escalation of Covid-19 in the State. He said deporting them is the only solution to once and for all address the perennial problem of Sabah.

John said it is logical for Star President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan to call for a Forum to discuss the long standing issue.

“Coming up with a concrete solution to the problem will be both beneficial to Malaysia and the countries concerned like the Philippines and Indonesia.

“Foreigners are welcome to work and stay with us provided they are legally documented,” he said. Furthermore, he said foreign workers/visitors would be properly protected in all aspects if they legally entered Malaysia.

We need foreign workers to help further develop our state and country but not welcome the undocumented ones, John stressed. While leaders are trying their utmost to identify the best mechanism to deport this group of people, the Senator suggested that regular repatriation exercises continue once the threat of Covid-19 subsided.

“It will be a win-win situation if special deportation exercises are organised soonest possible to avoid overcrowding in detention depots and possible coronavirus infections among the inmates,” John said.

“We do not want to see our illegal immigrant detention centres become Covid-19 epicentres,” he said.
