Community Development Assistant charged with corruption

Kota Kinabalu: A 49-year-old public servant charged with corruptly accepting RM169,400 from a contractor, will have her case management on July 6 this year.Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat set the date for Rupia @ Rubee Gindol who maintained her plea of not guilty to the charge against her on Tuesday.

She is accused of receiving the money from one Berry Yong Soon, 35, at the CIMB bank in Api-Api Centre, here between 2018 and 2019.
The charge stated that Rupia as the Community Development Assistant received the money, which has relation to her job at the General Welfare Services.
She was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which has to do with public servants obtaining any valuable thing, without consideration, from person(s) in any proceeding or business transacted by such public servants.
Rupia could be punished with a jail term of up to two years or fine, or both, on conviction.

Prosecuting Officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission appeared for the prosecution while Rupia was not represented.
