Get tested before coming to Sabah, advises Dept
Kota Kinabalu: The State Health Department has recommended Malaysians who intend to enter Sabah to undergo reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR) tests for Covid-19 prior to arriving in the State.

These tests, State Health Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi (pic) said, should be done between three and seven days before their travel dates to ensure the laboratory results could be obtained.

“Upon arrival in Sabah, all passengers must fill the Health Declaration Forms truthfully,” she said in a statement, Wednesday.

“They will then go for health screenings by the Department’s personnel and if they are found to be asymptomatic and have negative lab results, then they will be allowed to enter without having to go for quarantine. If they are symptomatic, then they will be referred to the hospital for further assessment.”

“For those who did not take lab tests, their samples will be taken at the international entry points and they will be instructed to be quarantined until their results are obtained.

“We hope to get the cooperation from all quarters to ensure the efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 will not be wasted and we can move forward towards recovery,” she said.

On the latest case in Beaufort, she said it was detected at the Labuan entry point when the patient was on his or her way back to work.

“The patient is now receiving treatment at the Labuan Hospital. The source of infection is still under investigation and the case’s close contacts had been identified.”

She also said as of Tuesday, the number of active cases in Sabah is 11.

The number of people undergoing home quarantine is 6,949, while another 1,108 are placed in quarantine centres.
