Tuaran: Parti Warisan Sabah Tuaran will go all out to defend the land settlement issue in Kg Sg Damit and several nearby villages.Local residents claimed that they have been voicing out their predicament to the previous government administration yet no action has been taken. In a recent meeting with Kg Sg Damit residents, political secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry promised to look into the matter and address the issue. “The Warisan led State Government is different, we prioritise the people’s needs to ensure Sabah’s prosperity is enjoyed by everyone,” said Rakam Sijim, who is also Tuaran Warisan Chief. Rakam said this when carrying out surveillance in the area together with Warisan Division Committee member Rusnin Laseh, Kg Sg Damit Village Chief Madil Hakim and Warisan Kg Sg Damit Branch Chief Edul Mulud, among others. Rakam also took time to visit several nearby villages namely Kg Sawah, Kg Bintangor and Kg Pitas. It is understood that over 130 houses in the four villages, including the said area, were gazetted by a government-owned agency decades ago. Apart from these villages, several other nearby villages also faced  the same problem.  Rakam promised that the matter will reach the government level and ensure the villagers’ rights are defended. On that note, he said he will bring the matter up with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. The land has been gazetted as a Rubber Settlement Scheme under the Sabah Rubber Industry Board. “We will ensure the local residents obtain the assistance according to the procedure. We will fight, apply and plead for the government to consider allocating the area as a villagers’ settlement. Rakam urged the villagers to give full support in providing feedback to ensure the issue ends amicably.
