Unkempt Lido house irks neighbours
The car porch in the front yard is in disarray.
Kota Kinabalu:  A Lido ratepayer has voiced her displeasure about the unkempt condition of the compound of a home in Teck Guan Villa.

HONEY of Penampang said the property had been left in a state of disrepair as it had not been properly maintained.

“The compound surrounding the house is covered with overgrown trees, plants and weeds,” she said.

“I constantly have to sweep up the dried leaves which fall into my compound from my neighbour’s trees.”

She also voiced his concern that the property might become a breeding ground for pests and insects.

“There are empty containers scattered about my neighbour’s yard which I fear may become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, rats and other pests.” She said she had intended to draw her neighbour’s attention to these irregularities.

“However, I have not seen the individual on the property in years.

“I am disappointed that the homeowner has not taken any steps to rectify this situation.”

Honey said some of her neighbours had reported these problems to City Hall on a number of occasions.

“Earlier this year, one of them wrote to the agency about this matter. “So far, however, the compound is still in a state of disarray,” she said on May 27.

The resident provided Hotline with the location of the house in question. This information was forwarded to City Hall.

A spokesman for the agency said the relevant section would be alerted to the ratepayer’s concerns.

“Our staff will visit the property. If the yard has indeed fallen into neglect, then we will get in touch with the owner,” he said.

“He/she will be asked to tend to the overgrown greenery and clean up his/her compound.”

He said, if need be, a notice to this affect was given to the ratepayer.

The spokesman said the individual would be given a grace period in which to comply with these instructions. “Further action could be taken against the homeowner, if he/she fails to do so,” he said.

“Should the ratepayer heed our advice, then the individual will be asked to step up his/her efforts to maintain her property so as not to create problems for others living along the same housing road.”

He said the agency’s staff might be called on to periodically keep an eye on the residence, in such an instance, to ensure that the compound was tended to regularly.
