Kota Kinabalu: Two people were found hanged in separate places here and in Penampang, Thursday.

In the first incident, an Indonesian who was visiting his would-be fiancée was found hanged in a toilet in Sinsuran.

The 32-year-old had just arrived from Kudat with a friend to visit her in her rented house in the 5.30pm incident.

City Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the victim had dinner with his friend and future fiancée before excusing himself to take a shower while the friend returned to Kudat.

“However, after some time the victim still did not come out of the bathroom. His would-be fiancée decided to knock on the door and called on a neighbour to check on the victim.

“As soon as they managed to break open the door, they were shocked to find him hanging,” he said.

Habibi said the would-be fiancée and her neighbours took the victim’s body down and she lodged a report at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD). According to Habibi, investigations at the scene did not reveal any elements of criminal activity that could be related to the death of the victim.

“The body was referred to the forensic unit in Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE1) for Covid -19 test before allowed to perform an autopsy. So far, the case has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR),” he said.

In PENAMPANG, the body of a 23-year-old was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a rented room at Vista Minintod Apartment, near here, Thursday.

Penampang Police Chief DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim said police received a call from the public at 6.28pm on the said incident.

“The complainant said there was a foul odour in his rented house and there were many flies in front of one of the rooms.

“Initial investigations revealed that two of the tenants who rented two separate rooms in the house smelled something foul and the flies in front of the victim’s room door.

“The homeowner was notified and came to check. He suspected something was amiss before going to the Penampang police for help,” he said.

“The body has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further action and the case is still under investigation,” he said, adding that the body was handled according to Standard Operation Procedures (SOP).
