Tambadaus ready for restart
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tambadaus are ready for the return of this season’s Super League competition since it was suspended on March 16 following the Covid-19 crisis in the country.

Team manager Henry Soimpon (pic) said this on Thursday after Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam’s comment on Wednesday that the there may be a chance that professional football activities including the Malaysian League (M-League) would return earlier than expected following the recent improved development of Covid-19 in the country.

He said there is a possibility that clubs could return to training as early as July before the league resumes in August although the earlier plans are for the league sides to train in August and the league to start in September.

“Safa (Sabah Football Association) are always ready to accept any decision by FAM and Malaysian Football League (MFL) on the restarting date for the competition.

“Ever since the MCO (Movement Control Order) was implemented, our training programmes have been ongoing from the players’ homes monitored by coach Kurniawan and his coaching staff with the aid of a social media application.

“The home training would continue as long as no decision has been made, and after the recent short break for them to celebrate the festive season they will resume this week. This is to maintain the players’ fitness level for the league competition if it resumes in the near future,” said Henry.

Henry added that they are still waiting for permission from MFL and FAM for the players to return to the field for training. “We hope to be able to start training on the field soon. The coaching staff also missed the outdoor training and not just the players.

“Of course our priority is the safety and health of the players and the coaches, which is very important, and we will ensure all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulations would be followed if we are allowed to.”
