Kota Kinabalu: The Badi Ultra Trail Challenge (BUTC) 2020 which was supposed to take place on March 28 has been cancelled as the result of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a statement released by organising chairman Datuk Philip Lasimbang dated May 27 to all the participants and network partners, he said they will not be able to hold the event this year as there was no sign that the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be lifted by the government.ADVERTISEMENT
“In view of the unexpected circumstances caused by the pandemic worldwide which led to the announcement of Movement Control Order (MCO) by the government on March 18 followed by the Conditional MCO to June 9.
“We were unable to stage on the original date and have been waiting eagerly for the lifting of the CMCO so that we can proceed with the event. However, until today there have been no certain dates for the lifting of this order.
“Even when the order is to be lifted, it may still not be wise for the event to take place. Therefore, we have decided that we will not be able to hold the event this year and we had to make the difficult, but necessary decision to cancel the event, and it is with deepest regret that we have to announce the cancellation of BUTC 2020,” he said.
He also said there will be no refund as the organiser has spent all on the purchasing of T-shirts, medals and other necessary items for the event.ADVERTISEMENT
Instead all the participants will receive the T-shirts and medals on June 15 and thereafter at Kadazandusun Language Foundation (KLF) Office (Lot 1 & 2, 2nd Floor, Block A, New World Commercial Centre, Off Jalan Penampang, Donggongon) from 9.30am to 4.30pm.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
