Notice the water in the drain was filled to the brim and about to overflow onto the road during heavy rain previously.
Kota Kinabalu: Remedial work is underway to solve the drain blockage problem at a large section of Jalan Tuaran Bypass in Manggatal. The effort to channel the water that stagnate inside a concrete roadside drain to the nearby existing drainage is lauded by motorists who frequent the main road as water tends to overflow onto the roadway during heavy rain.ADVERTISEMENT
A government contractor had inspected the condition of the structure early this year.
“We could only clear the rubbish that float on the water at that time because we couldn’t find the outlets for the water to flow through it,” its spokesman told Hotline.
A regular user of the stretch complained that the blockage had caused a constant pool of water on the road which inconvenienced to both motorists and motorcyclists.
“Hopefully we can settle this task soon as possible because the present rainy season often hampered our effort to continue working,” he added.ADVERTISEMENT
He said the remedial work includes constructing a new outlet channel to enable the water to flow through successfully into the nearby river. “This shouldn’t have happened simply because the water that accumulates on the main road can potentially cause motorists and even motorcyclists to lose control of their respective vehicle while plying on that stretch,” said RASHID of Telipok.
He said the primary purpose of a road drainage system is to remove the water from the road surface and its surroundings.

“Hopefully this publication can serve as a reminder to litterbugs to stop the common practice of littering on the go,” he added.
