PAPAR: A 44-year-old woman died on the spot of head and bodily injuries following an accident involving three vehicles along Km 16, Jalan Papar Lama-Kota Kinabalu, here, Friday.

District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Umpit said the incident happened at about 2.45pm when a Nissan Navara driven by a 20-year-old and heading towards Papar from Kota Kinabalu lost control of his vehicle and entered the opposite lane.

“The vehicle collided with a Perodua Axia driven by a 40-year-old man who was travelling in the opposite direction along with the deceased.

“Due to close distance, a lorry driven by a 30-year-old man who was also heading towards the opposite direction could not stop in time and crashed into the two vehicles,” he said.

Batholomew said the impact caused the victim to sustain serious injuries while the Navara driver and the Axia driver suffered minor injuries.

The victim was sent to the Papar Hospital for post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

This was the first fatal accident reported in the district since the implementation of the Movement Control Order on March 18.
