Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) recently welcomed 1,075 new members from Tawau, many of whom are young professionals.

Central Youth Movement assistant chief publicity officer Lim Ting Khai said the current political climate in the country has driven the younger generation to speak up for a fairer and righteous nation for the next generation.

“These 1,075 young individuals have voluntarily joined LDP because they believe in the party’s objectives and have confidence with it. Like LDP, they aspire to create and fight for the rights of the people in Sabah.”

The new members, who comprise lawyers, engineers and other professionals, joined LDP under Apas division.

In addition, Lim said LDP has initiated various welfare programmes, which attracted the younger generation.

“The younger generation believe in reaching out to underprivileged individuals or communities around them, irrespective of race or creed.”

He said the party has never stopped from fighting for the wellbeing of the people and has provided effective platforms for these young people to speak their minds.

“Despite being the sole Chinese-based party in Sabah, everything that LDP does extends beyond the Chinese community because we strive to enhance and safeguard the unity and harmony in the State.”

Lim said LDP through its Obor Community Service Team has distributed essential goods to needy people during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, which he believed was one the reasons why the new members joined the party so that they could be involved in the party’s charity programmes.

He said party President Datuk Chin Su Phin has been constantly encouraging the younger generation to speak up.

“So, I urge more young people to join the party and together we can shape a better future for Sabah,” he said.
