Kota Kinabalu: The annual charity event for the Excelrun Charity and Education Fund has been called off for this year, said Excelrun general manager Juliet Lo.

“Initially, the final charity event was supposed to be held on Feb 29, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the company has, in February, informed all the selected recipients that the event has been postponed,” she said on Friday.

However, she said, in view of the global worsening of the Covid-19 pandemic with no vaccine in sight in the near future, Excelrun has no choice but to cancel the event.

“The company is well aware that most of the recipients are waiting for funds to carry out their planned activities, especially during these difficult times.

“As such, the release of the company’s financial contributions is important and could no longer be delayed.

“In the best interest of all concerned, the company has decided to courier the cheques to the 27 selected schools and welfare/charitable organisations by June 15. “Each beneficiary would receive RM10,000.” This year’s beneficiaries are Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Chinese High School, Tawau, Kian Kok Middle School, Kota Kinabalu, SM Yu Yuan, Sandakan, Lahad Datu Middle School, Tenom Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Beaufort Middle School, Papar Middle School, SM Pei Tsin, Kudat, SMJK Tiong Hua, Sandakan, SMK Lok Yuk, Kudat, Kinabalu Breast Cancer Support Association (Kinabalu Pink Ribbon), Kota Kinabalu Lions Ambulance Service Society, Society for the Sabah Heart Fund, National Stroke Association of Malaysia, Sabah Society for the Blind, Sabah Society for the Deaf, Sabah Kidney Society, Seri Mengasih Centre, Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu, Montfort Youth Training Centre, Kinarut, Rumah Anak Yatim Tambunan, Don Bosco Children’s Home, Bundu Tuhan, Pertubuhan Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (Kudat), Kota Kinabalu Charitable Foundation, Sabah Thalassaemia Society, and Darul Bakti, Kota Belud.

Lo said with the final distribution of RM270,000 to the 27 selected recipients, the company have fulfilled its pledge under the Excelrun RM2.50 Million Charity and Education Fund (2011-2020). “Excelrun has also diligently completed its 10-year corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme that was initiated on January 23 in 2010,” she said.
