Two held over assault on two Pakistani men

RANAU: Two men were arrested on Thursday following a viraled video showing two Pakistani men being assaulted by villagers, near here, last month.Ranau Police Chief DSP Sammy Bin Newton (pic) said the incident happened in Kg Rinangkatan.

“Last week there was a video clip of the incident where two Pakistani nationals were beaten got highlighted when it was uploaded by a Facebook user and shared by other WhatsApp users.
“On Wednesday, at about 8.20pm, Ranau IPD police received a report from a Pakistani citizen who was one of the victims of the incident.
“The investigation revealed that the incident was believed due to a misunderstanding between the two Pakistani nationals and two local men in the village,” he said.
Sammy said on Thursday at around 4.15pm Ranau police arrested two local men in their 50s and 60s to assist in the investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 384 of the Penal Code.

“If convicted, they can be punished with a jail term of up to a year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
“Whereas Section 384 of the Penal Code provides for a term of imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping or with either of those punishments if convicted,” he said.
