LABUAN: Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Isli said even though Labuan is now under the opposition (Parti Warisan Sabah) at the Federal level, the government is still compelled to continue the development of Labuan because it is a Federal Territory.“Being an opposition MP, I would also be able to get attention from Sabah which is administered by Warisan.ADVERTISEMENT
“This basically meant that Labuan would benefit both from Federal and Sabah. In addition to this, I could also provide the checks and balances as an opposition MP.”
Rozman said this in reference to a report in Astro Awani which suggested that he was planning to abandon Warisan.
The new aired on June 21 shocked many of his supporters and he was inundated with calls.
Rozman said though Labuan has been a Federal Territory since 1984 and there had been developments these have yet to meet the expectations of locals. “After being as a FT for years, Labuan is not even at par with other Federal Territories such as Langkawi or Kuala Lumpur.”ADVERTISEMENT
Giving further reasons why the Federal Government would continue with Labuan progress despite he being an opposition MP, Rozman said Labuan was also an International Business and Financial centre.
“The government cannot afford to see that infrastructure and other developments here were lacking as this would not be good for the image of Labuan. So let’s not worry about not getting development.

He regretted that some held the notion that than an opposition State would see little progress. Look at Penang and Selangor. These opposition states are doing well.
Rozman won GE13 under Umno/BN ticket with a majority of 6069 votes during GE14 the majority was reduced to 1,450 due to support from Warisan for its candidate Noor Halim Zaini.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Rozman said the result showed that many here still value the cultural, social, economic ties with Sabah and want Labuan to stay connected to Sabah.
In October 2018, Rozman hopped over to Warisan Sabah.
