17 made homeless in KB fire

KOTA BELUD: Seventeen people were made homeless after fire destroyed two semi-permanent houses, early Monday.District Fire and Rescue station chief Muhammad Syazwan Latun said 11 firemen, a fire engine and an emergency services vehicle were dispatched at 2.19am.

Upon arrival, they found both houses already being consumed and commenced efforts to put out the fire.
“All residents escaped unscathed,” he said.
The fire was brought under control at 3.08am and extinguished at 4.34am while investigation into the cause is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in TAWAU, a school block with seven-doors at SK Sg Haji Kuning, Jalan Merotai, near here, was razed at about 2.15pm on Sunday.

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Zulbab Alior said, the premises was completely destroyed in the inferno.
He said a team together with a tanker with the capacity of 20,000 litres were deployed to the scene some 22 kilometres away following a 2.19pm distress call via MERS 999.

“Our team immediately jumped into action upon arrival at the school,” he said, adding that the fire was brought under control by 3.10pm.
No casualty was reported, while the cause of fire and estimated loss is still being probed.
