Ex-UMS security guard jailed 13 years for student attempted rape
Kota Kinabalu: A former Universiti Malaysia Sabah security guard was jailed 13 years and ordered to get six strokes of the cane for attempting to rape an 18-year-old student of the university.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus handed the sentence to Arshad Masdin who was found guilty of the charge on Tuesday.

Arshad was convicted under Section 376(2)(a)/511 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between five and 30 years and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered Arshad to serve the sentence from Tuesday after rejecting his application to stay the execution of the sentence pending an appeal to the High Court.
