Student dies in Tawau mishap

TAWAU: A Form five student was killed after he was involved in an accident at Jalan Utara Baru off King Fook about 8.35pm on Monday. 

District police chief, ACP Peter Umbuas said the victim, riding an EX5 motorcycle, was identified as Muhammad Nazrul Hisyam Firman from Kg Tg Batu. 

The mishap took place while the victim was heading home from Taman Ria, while the Toyota Hilux driver, 30, wan on the way to Taman King Fook from Mile 1.

The victim has thrown off and dragged for about 3.4 meters. 

Peter said, the victim has been rushed to the Emergency Unit in Tawau hospital but pronounced died at 9.32pm. 

He added that initial investigation shows that the accident occurred due to the car driver’s negligence while entering the corner road.

The driver has been detained to have his statement taken to assist in an investigation carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987.
