502 S’kan mart traders screened for Covid-19

SANDAKAN: A total of 502 market traders here have been screened for Covid-19 since June 22 to 30 with one found to be positive, 346 negative and the remaining 155 still pending results.Sandakan Area Health Officer Dr Johari Awang Besar said the screenings were carried out in markets where there is a lot of movement and are evaluated as risky locations for Covid-19 infections.

ADVERTISEMENT He said following positive cases in the Sandakan Public Market, controlling and preventive measures are being carried out, including contact tracing, case detection through risk assessment and screening for those who are performing transactions in the said market.
“In addition, the market that was temporary closed on July 1 is expected to be operating as usual as early as 10pm on July 2 or as soon as the disinfection process carried out by health officials as well as the Municipal Council is completed.
“All these traders will be briefed on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) they are required to follow today (Thursday) before they are allowed to re-open.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

“If they fail to comply, they will be directed to close their booth or compounded by the Health Official,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.ADVERTISEMENT
Johari advised the community to continue their compliance with the SOP, including practising the 3W; wash hands frequently with water and soap or use hand sanitiser, practise social restraint and avoid shaking or touching, wear face masks when going out, practise a proper way of covering when coughing and sneezing, get treatment if symptomatic and avoid 3S which is congested, cramped and close chat.
