KENINGAU: President of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said the establishment of Keningau Parliamentary Perikatan Nasional (PN) Coordinating Committee was aimed at enhancing and strengthening co-operation among PN parties here.

He said the co-operation, support and involvement to all PN parties in Keningau parliamentary constituency when conducting programmes are to ensure that PN become stronger and win with a bigger majority in the coming general election.

“We want the committee to be a platform for the struggle to enhance the spirit of co-operation among PN parties in Keningau parliamentary constituency,” he said when chairing a meeting with six of the seven PN parties recently.

The leaders of the divisions present were from Star, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Umno, PAS, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS). MCA did not attend the meeting but agreed to any decision that was made during the meeting.

Jeffrey, who is also the Keningau Member of Parliament, said the establishment of the committee was timely as the 15th general election is imminent and that each party must engage and work together to attend every programme organised by PN Keningau through the committee.

He said the delay in the setting up of the committee was due to the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) and Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) Covid-19 Pandemic since March 18.

According to him, the meeting was only held at this time but that it was limited to the attendance of between three and five members from each party.

“I am also very satisfied with the response given by all the leaders of the PN parties in Keningau that were present at the meeting where division heads and division deputy heads that came agreed to the establishment of the committee.

“I am confident that through this committee, we will always be together in whatever programme that we will be holding and that through this cooperation it will show that we are united.

“What is needed now is that after the formation of the committee, we will increase the spirit of cooperation and strengthen the good relationship among us,” he said.

Jeffrey, who is also Deputy Minister of Tourism Culture and Arts said Keningau Parliament is the first to set up the committee in the country and that he hoped that it will inculcate high commitment from PN members especially regarding a sense of belonging and friendship,” he said.

He said that in addition to making the committee a platform to enhance cooperation between members of PN parties in the area, the members elected to the committee should act as agents of the people in their respective area in addressing issues.

“I believe members of the committee are capable of bringing the requests and concerns of the people and forward them to the Keningau Parliamentary Liaison Office for further action. I will ensure that all these issues will be forwarded to the relevant government departments and ministries at the Federal level,” he said.

The leaders representing their respective parties at the meeting and voiced support for the establishment of the committee were Keningau Bersatu Division Chief, Azman Haji Ruslan, Bingkor Star Division Chief, Robert Tawik, Keningau Umno division Chief, Haji Janis Abdullah, Liawan Star Division Chief, Datuk Annuar Ayub, Keningau area PAS Chairman, Hisham Othman, PBS Liawan division Chief, Zachery Kinsik, Liawan PBRS Division Chief, Johnny Kadau and PBS Bingkor Deputy Chief,  Victor Anahong.

At the meeting, Jeffrey was elected as Chairman of the Committee while Azman Deputy Chairman. The Committee’s Secretariat Chairman was Robert Tawik while members of the committee are made up of three members from each parties.

Jeffrey also requested that each party in the committee appoint a Liaison Secretary so as to facilitate smooth operations when dealing with the committee’s secretariat.
