Headmaster jailed for misusing RM14,300 public donations

SANDAKAN: A 55-year-old headmaster was jailed six months and fined RM9,000 for three counts of misusing property amounting to RM14,300.Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manat handed the sentence to Brahim Zakaria who pleaded guilty to all the alternatives charges against him, Thursday.ADVERTISEMENT
For each charge, Brahim was sentenced to six months’ jail and fined RM3,000 or three months’ jail, but the court ordered that the jail sentence be served concurrently.
On the first to third count, Brahim is accused of misusing SK Karamunting public donation of RM5,000 on March 17, 2017, RM6,000 on July 14, 2017 and RM3,300 on Dec 23, 2016.
The charge stated that the donation was meant for programmes for students but had misused it while he was a headmaster of the school.
In the same court, a 32-year-old government servant was jailed a week and fined RM3,000 or another three months for accepting RM1,200 from a company director.ADVERTISEMENT
Supardi Latif admitted to receiving the money which was banked into Supardi’s bank account.
Another man was sentenced to three days’ jail and fined RM3,000 in default two months’ jail for bribing a policeman.

Risfrickhtan Risin, 25, admitted to giving RM100 bribe to the policeman as an inducement not to take action against him for not having a lorry driving licence and his lorry’s road tax had expired.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Prosecuting Officers Muhd Faliq Basiruddin and Michael Joimin appeared for the prosecution.
