Tawau council urged to act on overgrown grass near playground
The overgrown grass at the vacant land is taller than an adult.
TAWAU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Tawau Complaint Bureau urged the municipal council to take action on overgrown grass on the vacant land next to a playground between Jalan Damai and Jalan Durian at Jalan Kuhara. Its chief Sarah Chang said the weeds were taller than an adult, and completely obscured the playground. “We as adults are afraid to navigate our way into the unkempt area, much less children.”

She hoped that the Tawau Municipal Council would clear the weeds immediately to stop the grass from growing any taller due to the incessant rain recently, as well as to prevent dengue fever breaking out in the area. On the other hand, Chang and her team member, Chau Xing Hong, have also received complaint about the dirtiness and foul smell emitting from the rubbish chute at the shoplot at Lorong Abaca 2 next to Marco Polo Hotel.

She said the bureau had received similar complaint in January this year about the slippery ground near the garbage chute that was believed to be caused by leaking sewer pipes. She said shortcut was regularly used by motorists daily and the condition was extremely unhygienic to the coffee shops nearby. Chang hoped that the council would act on the problem as soon as possible, particularly when Sabah has reported cholera cases. She also called on the public to contact the LDP Tawau Public Complaint Bureau at 014-3991900 for any complaints.
