Counterfeit shoes worth RM51,900 seized in Ranau

Tuaran: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Tuaran branch seized 865 pairs of suspected counterfeit shoes worth RM51,900 in a raid on a premises in Kundasang, Ranau, recently.

KPDNHEP Tuaran Acting Enforcement Officer, Gunasegaran Krishnan, said the action was taken following public complaints.

“Initial investigations revealed that the owner of the premises has 719 pairs of shoes and sneakers carrying two branded trademarks believed to be fake,” he said, adding the case will be investigated under Section 100 and 102 of the Trademark Act 2019. If found guilty, he said, a corporate body can be fined up to RM15,000, while for a non-corporate body, the fine is up to RM10,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both.
