BEAUFORT: A policeman here sustained injuries on three of his left fingers after a parang attack by a suspected addict in a raid at a house in Kg Kebatu at 8.20pm on Sunday.

 District Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak on Monday said a Bisaya aged 50 is believed to have slashed the victim and escaped after a team of police from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) entered the victims’ house.

He said acting on information regarding the suspects’ drug activity, an officer along with seven personnel conducted a raid in the said location.

“The team called out the suspects and asked for the door to be opened several times but it was ignored causing the police to kick the door open.

“The victim was waiting near the kitchen door when the suspect suddenly tried to get out which prompted the victim to push him with his leg, causing the suspect to fall back into the kitchen where he came from.

“The victim then tried to catch the suspect who fell on his back, but he swung a parang at the victim hitting him on the left hand. The victim fled toplo-= avoid further injury,” he said on Monday.

Azmir said, the suspect then left his house and fled to the garden behind his house where the rest of the personnel tried to catch him but were unsuccessful due to the darkness and bushy areas.

““Police however, have mobilised a team to track down the suspect believed to have still hiding within the village,” he said.
