“Should we receive an allocation, the pavements at Damai Plaza and several shophouses in the City will also be improved,” he said.
“This is quite a major undertaking as the existing five-foot way around these buildings will have to be hacked up and replaced.”
The spokesman was responding to an Inanam shopowner’s misgivings about the poor condition of the covered drains around the HSK Industrial Centre
He said the walkway around the shops was damaged and hazardous to pedestrians.ADVERTISEMENT
The individual provided Hotline with the location of the damaged pavement in front of his unit. This information which was forwarded to the agency.
The spokesman said its staff confirmed that concrete for some of the five-foot ways had deteriorated, in places, when they inspected the commercial centre.

“We will arrange the damaged sections patched up where needed to minimise the risk to those going on foot,” he said.
“This should provide some temporary relief to the public until the pavement can be properly upgraded.”
LAN of Inanam said cracks had formed in the concrete pavement outside the units there.
He said the public risked being injured because of the uneven surface of the walkway.
“Those going on foot could easily trip and fall as sections of the tiles used to cover the pavement have been chipped away,” he said.
“The poor condition of the pavement creates the impression that the five-foot way has not been maintained in a long time.”
He said he hated to imagine what would happen if a pregnant woman or senior citizen took a tumble.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Lan said some of the shop operators near the pavement had lodged complaints to City Hall about deteriorating state of the common area outside their premises.
So far, however, no action had been taken, according to him.
