TAMPARULI: Villagers of Kg Loputung, especially those living in Masapang and Sinsibon zones, appealed to the relevant authorities to build a bridge across Sg Ginatai, their main access to the outskirts of the village.

One of the villagers Edward Solibi, 27, said several officials came to visit the river but no follow-up or even action had been taken to date.

“The situation is more difficult if there is an emergency such as if some residents are sick or when there are deaths and at the same time the river water level will rise due to floods and vehicles could not cross the river. When such situation happens, we will usually work together and find alternative roads using an obsolete suspension bridge upstream,” he said in a statement, on Saturday.

Edward said although the Masapang and Sinsibon zones are currently inhabited by about 15 houses, the number would definitely increase when bridges are built to connect the two banks of the river.

“This is because, many young people who are outside Sabah will return to their villages and work on their family lands. Agricultural produce will be sold to the town, and obviously the bridge will provide many benefits to all residents, besides being a way for parents to send their children to school,” he said.
