25 NGOs to benefit from Special Treasury Assistance Grant

Kota Kinabalu: Some 25 non-governmental organisations (NGO) under the Sabah Coalition of NGOs (Gannos) are expected to benefit from a Special Treasury Assistance Grant from the Federal Government.The coalition’s head Dato Nani Sakam (pic) said the main purpose of the aid is to fund the respective missions of the NGOs and its activities. He said that the funding amount would be subject to the NGO’s activities, in which the Government will evaluate and determine the sum accordingly.

“The NGOs will list down their programmes and from there the Government will decide how much to give, whether it is RM50,000 or RM60,000 or so on – it depends,” he told reporters during a briefing session of the grant to NGO heads at BTC Luyang on Sunday.
Sakam expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for the initiative to help the NGOs.

The Special Treasury Assistance Grant is a Federal Government provision under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry. It is distributed to NGOs to encourage participation and involvement in welfare programmes and services.

It requires NGOs to act as a partner with the Ministry in providing the best service to the public, in addition to Government services.
