TAWAU: A Museum featuring the history and cultures of Tawau will be set up at the former District Officer’s house located near the stadium field, Jalan Airport Lama here. It would become a starting point for locals and visitors alike to know about the history of Tawau before visiting particular sites.

Prior the official opening, the museum would be open mid-September in conjunction with the Malaysia Day.

Tawau Municipal Council President Datuk Ir Amrullah Kamal said the Museum would exhibit a variety of antiques, cultures and historical artefacts of Tawau.

He urged Tawau residents to contribute any antiques from the British era for the Museum.

He said this to reporters when receiving antiques from Tawau communities at the Council conference hall Thursday.

In future, Amrullah hoped the Museum could be expanded to allow for a mini gallery and structural plot for ethnic houses in Tawau.

He also hoped more private companies could take part in this project as part of their corporate social responsibility in order to succeed.
