KK judge asks lawyers: Are your Practising Certs valid?

Kota Kinabalu: A Sessions Court Judge has decided to ask any lawyer representing an accused who appears before her to declare if he or she had a valid Practising Certificate (PC) before the commencement of any trial.

Judge Elsie Primus who presided over a criminal trial on Thursday drew the court’s attention following a High Court’s decision to order a re-trial of a case to a Sessions Court due to a lawyer, who represented an accused in the trial, not having a valid PC.

Elsie said she would question lawyers about their PC before proceeding with any trial, adding the trial would go to waste if the lawyers who represented any accused, had no PC.
