Korean charged with assaulting man in Penampang

Kota Kinabalu: A Korean businessman was charged in the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for assaulting a man in Penampang recently.

Oh Woo Seob, 46, was accused of voluntarily causing hurt to one Dominic Benjamin, 44, by hitting his head with a hard object at 4.45pm on July 14 at the wholesale market near Plaza 333.

He pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles after the charge was read out to him.

The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both on conviction.

The court set Sept 8 for pre-trial case management and also for the presence of Korean interpreter for the case.

Lovely also ordered Oh’s passport to be kept by the court.

Oh, who was not represented was offered bail at RM1,000 in one surety.

In another case, a man was fined RM2,600 or seven months jail for taking syabu.

Md Sazry Adam admitted to committing the offence here recently.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.

Inspector Zamri Zakaria prosecuted.
