'Leave the mangroves alone in road construction'

Mangrove forests require a natural flow between seawater and freshwater in rivers to live well.
Kota Kinabalu: An environmental NGO coalition cautioned that mangrove forests should not be disturbed for road construction.

Humans Habitats Highways or 3H said with an area of 232,000 hectares, Sabah’s mangrove forests are three times the size of Singapore. This makes the State the main area for such an important ecosystem in Malaysia.

“Mangrove forests are an effective absorber and storage of carbon,” said 3H in a statement. It is a major fortress against tsunamis, storms, erosion and rising sea levels.
