Jobless man jailed for threat over RM50

Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to seven months’ jail for threatening to injure a man over RM50.Mohd Hazri Mohd Sabli pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to criminally intimidating Mohd Nur Afdee Mohd Saidi, 23, using a brick to frighten and injure him at 9.10pm on Aug 11 in front of a rented room at Sadong Jaya here.ADVERTISEMENT
Inspector Zamri Zakaria, prosecuting, told the court that prior to the incident, Afdee was near a restaurant when he was approached by two unknown men, who demanded RM50 from him.
Afdee ignored them and ran towards his rented room nearby but the men chased him where one of them, later identified as Hazri again demanded RM50 from him.
A public member who witnessed the incident tried to calm the situation but Hazri took a brick to frighten and hurt Afdee.
A scuffle ensued between Hazri, Afdee and the public member before the police came and arrested Hazri, the court heard.ADVERTISEMENT
Hazri, who was not represented, requested for leniency on the grounds that he was jobless while Zamri applied for an adequate sentence be imposed.
Hazri was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both on conviction.

In another case, three men were jailed six months and fined RM1,000 or one month jail each for disposing of a stolen motorcycle.
Muhd Sharudin Boin Saindi, 21, Garry Siew, 23, and Arjudin Aluddin, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence on the motorcycle belonging to one Azni Rani on June 17 between 12pm and 3pm at Kundasang town.
Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuting, told the court that Azni had lodged a police report that the machine which belonged to his employer, which he parked at a roadside of Jalan Lintas in Kepayan went missing at 7.10pm on June 13.
Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong, represented the three, requested for lenient sentence.
The three were charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and seven years jail and liability of a fine on conviction.
Meanwhile, Sharudin and Arjudin were handed another six months jail on another similar offence.
They admitted before Magistrate Afiq Agoes to disposing of a stolen motorcycle belonging to one Ibnu Ukasyah Asnan on July 23 at the Police Contingent Headquarters’ barrack here.
Inspector Lim Swee Beng, prosecuting, informed the court that the duo were arrested on Aug 1.
The court ordered the duo to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest.
In another development, three men were penalised for taking syabu and amphetamine.
Saint James, Joesel Lijimi and Haddy Ismail, pleaded guilty to committing the offence between May 27 and June 2 this year.
