Man, 41, charged with raping stepdaughter

Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old man was charged with raping his stepdaughter.However, no plea was recorded from the man after the charge was read to him on Friday.

The man is accused of raping the 15-year-old girl between 8am and 10.30am on July 27 this year at a house in Ranau.
The offence under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between eight and 30 years, and whipping at least 10 strokes of the cane, on conviction.
The court set Sept 17 for case management and ordered the man to be remanded further pending the date.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Shafiqah Suleiman objected to bail the man on the grounds that there was a real risk of tampering the prosecution witnesses especially the alleged victim.

She informed the court that based on the investigation by the Investigating Officer of the case, the alleged victim was the man’s stepdaughter.
“Even though the girl is currently living with her biological father after the report was made but there is two other witnesses who lived with the man, namely his wife and the girl’s step-brother.

“Furthermore, the alleged victim had made a withdrawal report pertaining to this case and that I objected to bail the accused,” Shafiqah said.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The man who was not represented, asked for bail to be given to him as he has children and wife to look after.
He informed the court that his wife has no permanent job and his schooling children could not go to school if he was not around as he is responsible to send his children to school by motorcycle.
