LABUAN: Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) here has been chided by the Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce for its lack of interest in repairing leaking sewerage pipes.

Chamber Chairman Datuk Wong Kii Yii said they wrote to the company pointing out two locations, one in front of a motorbike shop along Jalan Tun Mustapha and the other surrounding the chamber building at Jalan OKK Awang Besar, where sewerage pipe were suspected to be leaking causing an overflow of dirty water on the road and remaining stagnant. He said the company acted promptly on the leakage near the motorbike shop but after hardly a few days the problem resumed, the job was not seriously handled instead of getting to the root cause of it, water was merely pumped out from underground and this was no solution.

He added that in the case of the other location at the chamber building action has yet to be taken. He said the “carpet” of dirty water was certainly unsightly and unhealthy.

Wong regretted that when comes to asking account holders to settle the bills it was prompt “but unfortunately in repairing jobs it did not appear so.”

He recalled that during a dialogue, IWK official said that Labuan was top-rated in settlement  of IWK bills with some RM17.8 million collected two years ago compared to RM10.4 million in 2015, “this should provide good reason for IWK to be efficient  in its services to account holders.”
